How Service Points Work


6 service points are required to become an associate or full member and to maintain active status as an associate or full member. See membership for more details on membership requirements

All 6 service points must be completed and & all ongoing service letterheads must be turned in by November 15th, 2017.


1) Sign-Up and attend AED's upcoming service events and make sure to electronically sign in.

  • You will receive 1 point for every 2 hrs at AED service events. The amount of points you will receive for an event are listed on the upcoming service page.

2) Participate in on-going volunteer opportunities listed on the website, obtain a letterhead from the organization documenting your service hours and turn in the letterhead at the end of the semester.

  • Sign up through contacts listed on the the On-Going Volunteer Page

  • You will receive 1 point for every 3 hrs at AED sponsored on-going events.


Email deadlines, listed on the upcoming service page, indicate the last day on which you may sign up for an event.

Once the deadline has past, a confirmation email will be sent to ALL those who signed up for the event and will contain a list of members who are CONFIRMED for the event. If your name is NOT listed, you did not receive a spot for that event.

Confirmation emails will also contain detailed information about the event such as the location, what to wear, and/or things to bring.


Excused AbsencesUnexcused Absences
Must email within 48 hours after receiving the confirmation email. Canceling for an event after 48 hours after receiving the confirmation email or not showing up for a confirmed event for any reason.
No service point deduction
1st offense: -0.5 service point 
2nd offense: -1 service point 
3rd offense: cannot volunteer for AED service events for rest of semester
